Help Us Save Gans Creek

Current citizen efforts at Gans Creek Recreation Area

(May 2025) - Boone County and Columbia residents who are fighting an imminent threat to Gans Creek have requested that we share this information here.

Citizens have organized to ask the City of Columbia to stop construction of the mountain bike trail at Gans Creek Recreation Area until protections to the natural resources of the area can be assured. Gans Creek is a State Outstanding Water and a treasure of Boone County. These photos below were taken in April 2025. More photos here.

445 people signed the petition with this request - "We, The Citizens of Missouri, respectfully request that before any more construction of the Mountain Bike Trail in Gans Recreation Area be resumed, that two Task Forces be appointed to study and oversee this project immediately, the purpose and concern being the sensitivity and integrity of the entire Gans ecosystem."

Organizers are requesting that citizens contact the Columbia City Council demanding action to stop the most damaging portions of the trail and for more oversight on construction.
